Divemaster Overview
This overview explains the Divemaster (DM) program with Scuba Life—the first professional level of scuba training. Schedules, pricing, and enrollment details are available on the Divemaster course page or by contacting us directly.

What Is Divemaster?
Divemaster is the first professional level of scuba certification. You are no longer just a recreational diver—you are training to assist instructors, guide certified divers, and take on leadership responsibilities underwater.
The program combines knowledge development, water skills refinement, rescue-level readiness, and real-world experience assisting with courses and guided dives.
Scuba Life runs Divemaster training for divers in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange County who want to turn their passion for diving into a professional pathway.
What You Will Work On
Training covers dive theory at a professional level, mapping and briefing skills, assisting with student divers, supervising certified dives, and demonstrating rescue-level water skills to instructor standards.
You refine your own diving until it looks effortless—precise buoyancy, calm problem-solving, and clear communication with students and certified divers alike.
Much of Divemaster development happens through mentorship: working alongside instructors during real courses, pool sessions, and ocean training days.
What the Program Includes
eLearning and knowledge development materials for the Divemaster curriculum, completed at your own pace with instructor review.
Water skills workshops and scenario-based training to bring your personal diving and rescue skills to demonstration quality.
Internship-style experience assisting with Open Water, Advanced, and specialty courses under instructor supervision.
Official Divemaster certification once all water skills, knowledge, and internship requirements are met.
Prerequisites and Readiness
You must be a certified Rescue Diver with current CPR and first aid training (typically EFR). A minimum number of logged dives is required—your instructor will confirm the exact count during enrollment.
Divemaster is physically and mentally demanding. Come prepared to repeat skills, accept feedback, and invest significant time in the water and in course support roles.
Because Divemaster schedules are customized, contact Scuba Life directly to discuss your timeline, goals, and whether the program is the right fit before you commit.
Why Divers Choose Divemaster
Some divers pursue DM to work in the dive industry—teaching, guiding, or working on boats and at resorts. Others want the deepest possible understanding of scuba without necessarily becoming a full instructor.
Either way, Divemaster changes how you see every dive. You notice student stress earlier, manage groups more effectively, and understand course logistics from the inside.
For Scuba Life students who have completed MSD or extensive specialty training, Divemaster is the natural next step toward Instructor Development.
Local Training and Catalina
Divemaster development with Scuba Life takes place across Southern California—pool facilities in the greater Los Angeles area, local beach sites, and Catalina Island depending on scheduling and the courses you assist with.
Catalina's kelp forests and Casino Point Dive Park provide real training environments where Divemaster candidates practice guiding, assisting, and managing student divers in ocean conditions.
Exact meet locations, internship schedules, and session details are provided during enrollment and planning—not on this overview page.
